Is German beer such as Becks actually HEALTHY for you? (if drank in moderation)?

Yes, yes, real beer has significant nutritional value, though there seems to be a cultural aversion to acknowledging anything beneficial in an alcoholic beverage. Of course there are health-deficits as well- addiction, liver-toxicity, car-wrecks, etc.- the inevitable consequence of chronic over-consumption. Probably these outweigh the benefits...I guess, but that wasn't your question. I wouldn't recommend replacing my post-workout protein shake with a pint of Guiness, but that ought to be obvious. Barley-malt is a fine source of B-complex vitamins, minerals, even protein. Yeast is even better- amino acids, protein, etc. American-style lights and such are not especially nutritious... we're talking about real beers here- the darker the better, in this respect, so long as the colour is not artificial. Becks is good. Best of all, probably, are certain craft beers, like Hefeweizen, that retain yeast-sediment in the bottle (even though these are wheat beers, not malt... but wheat is good for you too). Remember that the Egyptians built pyramids on a diet of beer and onions, and beer was the principle hydrating beverage for the European lower-middle classes before the mid-19th century (since available water,- especially stored water- was generally recognized to be unhealthy, as it of course was, thanks to the abundant malicious microbes).
